NYC 2013: Fall Haul (PIC HEAVY)

I don’t consider myself a materialistic person and when I make purchases, I try to make the most practical decision about the item(s) I’m buying. To be a beauty & fashion blogger, I don’t think you have to constantly be … Continue reading

OOTD: Geek Chic

Here I find myself, on a cloudy Friday, on my way into Manhattan yet again. How I will miss saying that when I get home!
It’s gotten rather chilly since we arrived and now I’m not regretting packing as much warm clothing as I was when we got here and it was a beautiful 75 degrees. Today the high is 10-15 degrees less than that and we are back to enjoying the briskness of the autumn air, we rarely get to experience at home.

My eyes needed a break from contacts today and I wanted to be warm and comfy. I took these pics at home during my pre-packing burst of enthusiasm about outfit styling…

Fashion Credits:

Sweater- Target, $23
Jeans- Target, $25
Scarf- Italian Street Vendor, approx $20
Booties- DSW, $70
Glasses- Calvin Klein, $85 (discounted with insurance)

Here’s are some tips:
#1. Don’t be afraid of variations. For instance, I have open wounds the size if small planets on the back of my heels from walking so much so, wearing the booties that started the process all over the city AGAIN didn’t seem appealing. I substituted them for some black, hightop Chuck Taylor’s and am, thus, bound to be one thousand times more pleasant while speeding to and fro in the subway terminals.

#2. If you like a sweater that is semi-fitted but want the oversized look, buy a size or two bigger. That’s what I did with this sweater. That way you have room to layer and it still hangs a little looser than the original item.

This week is coming to an end too quickly but, I admit I am anxious for my own bed.

Have a great Friday!! 🙂

OOTD: Hoboken Trenches

Yesterday was a frustrating day…That aside, however, we did have a lovely visit with my “step-nephew” who is more like a friend since, oddly, we are the same age. He recently moved to Wallkill, NY and we hadn’t seen him in … Continue reading

OOTD: First & Foremost

First & foremost, let me just say that you should never, ever, ever wear brand new shoes to walk around in the city of Manhattan. At least not brand new ankle booties without socks. Yikes!

Yesterday was our first full day (one of many to come) in NY and I couldn’t have been more excited. I picked something casual and comfortable to wear. It was a super sunny, crisp, fall day; totally gorgeous! I didn’t know that the ankle booties would get me problems until I started walking for more than 30 minutes and we were already too far away from the house to go back for socks…etc. So, like a true fashionista I stuck it out and now have humongous gashes on my heels where blisters used to be. Oh well, it was worth it. Lets just say, you’ve been warned.

We spent the day doing a few just for fun things, a few educational things, and eat lots of yummy food! Food is always my favorite part 😉

I don’t think I could ever live in NYC, unless I was single, because the hustle and bustle of the big city lifestyle isn’t really my speed. I’m quite the homebody and enjoy my quiet time in my own space, and wide open area where I can just breathe. But, a week surrounded by people from the world over, experiencing different languages, cultures, sights, and smells all in this ‘melting pot’ of a place is really amazing. It always takes my breath away to see how outstandingly diverse the human race can be and yet, we all have so much in common.

And she got her gorgeous, military style, navy jacket at a consignment store!

Fashion Tip: Don’t be afraid to look through consignment and resale store clothing, as well as Goodwill, or eBay. You never know what you’ll find! One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. 😉

I hope you all are having a wonderful week so far. Happy Hump Day!

OOTD: Flight of Fashion

Caught our flight to NYC this morning and… WE MADE IT! Such a nice feeling to be back in this city! ❤️ There is something so artistic and independent about the spirit of this place…
