Fresh Picks: Newborn Must-Haves

This evening Hubby and I are heading out to our childbirth class “refresher”. At first, I wasn’t quite sure that I wanted to take a course to virtually walk through everything I already did with my first labor and delivery … Continue reading

Get The Look: Kim Kardashian West

Kim Kardashian West might not be your favorite celebrity and, given the outfits she has chosen to wear recently, she has been under some scrutiny in the public eye. While I appreciate Kim K’s good looks and sense of style, … Continue reading

Ariana Grande: Teen Vogue February 2014

I’ll admit that since I began photography business and had a baby, I’ve been a little out of pop culture news. But, somehow, beginning a blog throws you right back into it. In the last 7 months of blogging, I’ve … Continue reading

OOTD: First & Foremost

First & foremost, let me just say that you should never, ever, ever wear brand new shoes to walk around in the city of Manhattan. At least not brand new ankle booties without socks. Yikes!

Yesterday was our first full day (one of many to come) in NY and I couldn’t have been more excited. I picked something casual and comfortable to wear. It was a super sunny, crisp, fall day; totally gorgeous! I didn’t know that the ankle booties would get me problems until I started walking for more than 30 minutes and we were already too far away from the house to go back for socks…etc. So, like a true fashionista I stuck it out and now have humongous gashes on my heels where blisters used to be. Oh well, it was worth it. Lets just say, you’ve been warned.

We spent the day doing a few just for fun things, a few educational things, and eat lots of yummy food! Food is always my favorite part 😉

I don’t think I could ever live in NYC, unless I was single, because the hustle and bustle of the big city lifestyle isn’t really my speed. I’m quite the homebody and enjoy my quiet time in my own space, and wide open area where I can just breathe. But, a week surrounded by people from the world over, experiencing different languages, cultures, sights, and smells all in this ‘melting pot’ of a place is really amazing. It always takes my breath away to see how outstandingly diverse the human race can be and yet, we all have so much in common.

Cardigan: Borrowed from my mom

Black Blouse: Target, approx $20

Boyfriend Jeans: Gap, $40

Ankle Booties: Nordstrom Rack, $70 (splurge!)

I also thought my mom looked nice today and talked her into letting me use some photos for the blog. Isn’t my mama cute?

And she got her gorgeous, military style, navy jacket at a consignment store!

Fashion Tip: Don’t be afraid to look through consignment and resale store clothing, as well as Goodwill, or eBay. You never know what you’ll find! One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. 😉

I hope you all are having a wonderful week so far. Happy Hump Day!

What’s In My Bag?

Hi guys!! I am so, so, so busy today getting ready for our big travel day tomorrow to NYC and I may be a bit sporadic posting this week but, before the plane takes off, I wanted to give you … Continue reading

#plaidurday, the boyfriend way

Here we go… another crazy traditon. Plaidurday. I had not heard about this until I was on instagram and noticed the #plaidurday hashtag. Of course, I immediately looked it up and it led me to the official plaidurday website, where … Continue reading

Frolick Into Fall

Rompers and playsuits are something I’m a BIG fan of for any season. Granted, you have to find the right style and fit for your body type, which I’m still learning  re-learning due to post baby body changes. However, I truly … Continue reading

OOTD: Rewind

It might be just where I live but, today was like a rewind back to summer!

I have been kinda down in the dumps recently, facing depression, cutting down my volunteer hours, endless migraines, a bad body image so much I have even considered not posting OOTD articles anymore 😦 , and fading friendships. But, today I woke up feeling good about life 🙂 I enjoyed running around with my mom, have an iced caramel macchiato, and (mostly) the weather! 82 degrees, low humidity, and the slightest breeze = perfection.

Please excuse my wind-blown hair. I got out of the shower, scrunched with some gel, and went for a “beach girl on the go” look 😉

OOTD: Monochrome Mash-Up

This is a look that I put together last night, although feeling extremely crappy, because my husband and I had an important meeting to attend. Even though the nature of the meeting was quite serious, I wanted to put a little edge and uniqueness into the outfit… maybe to take the edge off how I was feeling?? I’m not sure but, I hope you like it.

I wanted to be comfortable, channeling a little bit of my inner rocker chick, and give a little bit of spice.

Black and white can be so boring! And separates can become predictable. But, put the two together and you might be surprised what a little closet “mash-up” can result in!

This outfit is something I think could be worn to numerous events and would be ideal for someone who has an office job. It has a bit of a ‘gal about town’ flair to it without being overly showy; work appropriate yet, transitional. Especially, when you evaluate each piece individually– which we will do in the credit portion.

I paired this look with an intense eye, straightened hair, and nude lip. I love the Revelon Super Lustrous Lipstick in “Nude Attitude” for makeup like this. (see below)

Xhilaration Juniors Convertible High Low Challis Maxi Dress– No longer sold in-store but, on clearance online. I picked up this dress at Target for $20-$25 over the summer for a work event. It is flowing, comfortable, and cute whether you wear it strapless, spaghetti straps attached, or layer it like I did here. Mine is in the color “Black” but, as you can see, it isn’t solid colored. The white design gives it a bit of a tribal look, which I love and is really in right now. To see the top of this dress, please click the link.

14th Union Black Semi-Sheer High Low T-Shirt (similar)- I couldn’t find a photo of this, probably because 14th Union is not very widespread. I got this shirt at Nordstrom Rack some time ago. It’s very plain which is actually great because you can have every element of your outfit doing something crazy. I layered this with a black camisole because I didn’t want the top of the dress poking out and it gave me some added support, if you know what I mean. I am also in love with this top from River Island.

Francesca’s Collections Black Blazer w/ White Lapel (similar)- At the beginning of spring I snagged this jacket for $10 on the FINAL SALE rack at Francesca’s and have been waiting 6 months to wear it. It gives a very polished look to an otherwise casual outfit. Of course, normally, I would wear it with a pop of color but, I think it worked very well with other items in its color family.

Owl Pendant Necklace (similar)- A gift from my mom when owls first started becoming popular. My love for owls is just as real as when she got me this!

Fuchsia Suede Pumps (similar)- My husband got these for me way back when he was just my boyfriend. I don’t usually find a lot of things I like at Rack Room Shoes but, these jumped out at me and I’ve been able to pair them with several ensembles since. They are girly and funky at the same time and I think they really speak for themselves in terms of style. The Steve Maddens in the link are a bit more on the feminine side, however they could be slightly more adaptable.

That’s it for today– Have a wonderful Friday! 🙂

Incidentally: Haul

IMG_7311Incidentally, I found myself right near one of my favorite stores this week while my husband and I were away for our anniversary yesterday/today; Nordstrom Rack! If you live near one of these yourself then you know how awesome they are! I always find numerous things in the store that I am dying to buy. Unfortunately, I never walk in with a large enough wad of cash. This time, especially, my husband and I each set a limit of how much we would spend. We went a little over budget because we got a couple of things for the kids but, all in all it was a decent, short trip for both of us.

Sorry in advance for the photo being a bit wonky… it’s getting late here and the sun is already down. However, I am far too excited about this to wait until tomorrow to post. So, I’m going to use stock photos for the sake of letting you see exactly how the items look, instead of waiting to try them on.

1) Mod.lusive Palm Print Woven Tank

Although, sold out at most of the regular Nordstrom stores I managed to snag one of these palm motif tank tops for $10! It was marked down from $42! It comes in 3 colors- a green, blue, and coral. I chose this color over the others because I felt like it was a more transitional piece and coral looks great on many skin tones.

You might think that this is a summer print but, why not carry bright colors and thoughts of warmer weather right into fall? Easier said than done for me, maybe, because I live near the ocean. I think would be great paired with a black blazer and some dressy jeans for a casual night out. What would you pair it with?

2) Wit & Wisdom Colored Denim Skinny Jeans

These colored jeans jumped out at me! For what reason, I don’t know. Usually, I am not much of a “pink” gal but, recently I have warmed up to it.

They stop about ankle length which, at first, made me think that I had picked up a petite size but, after double and triple checking I realized that they are made that way to show off ridiculously cute shoes– reference the model for proof. I think I will probably cuff these slightly just to give it more of a laid back and ‘finished’ look. The style of tops you could pair with these are completely endless! Neutral, patterned, button up, flowy…etc. I can’t wait to wear these. Versatile as they are I truly feel that they are able to be worn year round– tucked into boots even! Originally $65, I got these for $25. What a steal!

3) Dolce Vita Ankle Booties

I, unfortunately, could not find a stock photo anywhere on the internet of these shoes! Surprising, ey?

I am IN LOVE with these booties!!! Can I just say that again?… IN LOVE!! I adore them, which is why this is where most of my part of the budget was blown. Originally $130, I bought these today for $70, and I feel like they were worth every penny. I don’t mind splurging on a pair of shoes that I adore when I know that I’ll take good care of them and wear them for years to come.

The cognac color allows them to be just neutral enough that they can be worn with numerous outfits but, the detail on the back make them unique enough for the wearer to stand out from the crowd. I literally want to wear these everyday. My new faves.

That’s all I got from Nordstrom… Now for something else fun!

Target has long been one of my favorite stores and I talk about it in almost every post. When I was walking by the hosiery section the other day I saw the most fun stockings!!! For $5!!! So, I had to grab some in a lovely shade of mint. Now, I need outfit ideas so, if you have any please leave them in the comments. I’m thinking I can’t just wear them with all black or it’s possible I might look like the Wicked Witch of the West! (please Google if you don’t get my reference)

That brings us to the end of my little haul. I hope you enjoyed my ramblings! If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions PLEASE leave them in the comment section and don’t forget to follow/subscribe. Thanks guys, xoxxo
