Ariana Grande: Teen Vogue February 2014

I’ll admit that since I began photography business and had a baby, I’ve been a little out of pop culture news. But, somehow, beginning a blog throws you right back into it. In the last 7 months of blogging, I’ve … Continue reading

Sunday Fun-day: Wishlist

I know I just posted a wishlist not long ago but, since then I have acquired a couple of the things on that list and added some new ones. Now, we all know we will never get EVERYTHING we have rated as a “must-have”, unless money is no object. However, it’s fun for us to share the pretty little things our hearts desire. So, here goes…

1) BCBG Paris Catina Bootie, DSW–  I want this shoe in black so badly that it is currently at the TOP of my most wanted list. I have been coveting them and can only pray that by next payday they still have my size in stock. It’s got the perfect slouch, suede style and a low enough heel to be comfortable for long time periods. I have put so many outfits together in my head with the black booties I don’t own, that it’s about time I break down and buy a pair. These retail for $80. *insert frown face here* But, they are a timeless piece of fall/winter fashion, hence my strong desire for them.

2) Lipsy London GLAM Fragrance, 50ml Edt– Here’s what the company has to say about this scent, “The scent itself combines fruity honey and sweet top notes, the heart notes compliment with Orchid, Jasmine and Peony and the base notes are deep with Amaryllis and black incense.” Can you say romance?! I think this sounds like the perfect year-round perfume and, reasonably priced at $40… I don’t think it’s mind smelling this amazing! I’m very picky about fragrances… This one from Lipsy sounds like one that everyone should try at least once. Light enough for day-to-day yet give you a feminine depth.

3) Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Color in “Plum Radiance”-  I don’t own any Laura Mercier products but, when I saw this blusher while surfing Polyvore, I fell in love. It’s a sweet, pinky, lively color for your face with a purple/plum undertone that I think would be gorgeous for cooler weather. I’m all about having a flush cheek at all times and can’t stand looking pale. This color is described as “light as air” and “velvety”. I can almost feel the luxury now!

4) Zara Owl Moccasin– These are shoes that I raved about here, in my last post. They are a complete and total novelty item that I may never own but, if I get the chance… Well, lets just say, we’ll see! Obviously, adorable, unique, and neutral. I would wear these ALL THE TIME; dressed up, dressed down, or not dressed at all! (Okay, that last one was a joke…!) But, honestly, definitely a splurge item at $50, made of polyester, and only come in one color. The little owl faces are what makes these so cute! Who wouldn’t look at those and immediately become happy??

That’s it for this Sunday edition of my hopeful purchases. Hope you enjoyed!

Urban Decay: Haul

Look what came yesterday guys!! I probably could’ve gone to my local Ulta store and bought the exact same products but, there is something thrilling about getting packages, don’t you think? There is also something no so thrilling about lugging a six month old into a store full of cosmetics he can grab destroy/eat (because everything goes in the mouth by this point) while you are trying to swatch colors. Plus, let’s just throw in there that, although I blog a lot about beauty and fashion, I don’t actually enjoy the act of shopping. Mostly because I’m broke afterwards, ha.

Anyway, I have never before bought a single Urban Decay product. I’m talking, not even a lipgloss. It might be partly because when it comes to semi high-end cosmetics I am a bit of a Smashbox snob and, of course, nothing can compare to MAC so I won’t even go there. But, I was in the market recently for a new palette. Yes, yes, I already have two- a large Stila one I have mixed feelings about and a smaller Smashbox palette that I use almost daily. You have to freshen up the mix every once in a while.

At first, I was really drawn to the Lavish Set by Anastasia of Beverly Hills. The colors= gorgeous!! But, the reviews weren’t awe-inspiring so I kept going with the search. Then, I came across the Coral Crush Amazonian Clay Eye & Cheek Palette by Tarte. Although, it’s listed as a “new” item I just feel like the colors, stunning as they might be, are too summery and would look better if I we about to get a tan– not lose one. Also, I have never used the Tarte brand before, even though I often browse their section in the store. I think, not being familiar with the products, I just didn’t trust myself to buy one yet. That doesn’t mean I won’t in the future though.

Finally, I remembered a recent post by rubyangel711 about all the new Urban Decay products at Sephora and couldn’t really help but go onto the Urban Decay website to see what they are all about. I won’t lie, I’ve had my eye on the Naked Palette  for quite some time. My beauty go-to girl, who I talk about ALL the time, Tanya Burr, uses hers frequently. However, the $50 price tag has been the one thing making me keep my distance. I just kept thinking, “What if I buy it and I hate it?” So, I wanted to go small and a little less indulgent before taking an even bigger plunge into the world of Urban Decay eyeshadows.

*Enter Ammo Palette*

Just look at all that pretty purple wrapping!

Before I talk about how freakin’ fantastic the colors in this palette are, I just want to comment on how great it is that I got double value on the Eyeshadow Primer Potion. The one in the light purple tube is the travel size that you can buy separately for $12. In this case, it came in the package with the eyeshadow. Then, I also got another sample size tube (dark purple) of the anti-aging formula of the potion, which is usually $24! I am so happy to have this coveted item since I’ve seen it used on countless makeup tutorials.

So, can we just take a minute and talk about the whole reason for this post? The eyeshadow! I mean, can you honestly tell me that those aren’t some of the prettiest colors?

The reviews on the website, about this particular palette, are almost all 5 stars. A lot of people who bought this did so as their first Urban Decay purchase and never looked back afterward. That made me feel so much better! Also, many commented on the staying power of the colors, the pigmentation, and the overall performance– saying that all of them were exceptional.

Value of this haul? Approx $75. Actual price I paid? $42 (including shipping) I have 3 words for you: NOTHING. TO. LOSE.

I think what I’m most excited about is the fact that this is the PERFECT size for traveling and that I know I won’t feel like I should’ve brought along my other palettes because with these shades, you can literally create anything from a bright day-time eye to a dark, smokey, night look. Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to swatch these for you but, I will be sure to give updates on my usage. I think I’m definitely already in love with Maui Wowie, Last Call, and Chopper without even trying them on. Others, like Shattered, are a little bold for me but, I am trying to expand my horizons a bit so, it might be a good thing that I feel a little out of my comfort zone with it.

What do you think of this haul? Was the Ammo Palette a good purchase? Why, or why not? What kind of looks would you like to see me create with this?

Manic Monday: 3 Easy Steps to a Fresh Face

These three products started my day off right! Here’s how…

Last night we were out running some errands and I decided, as usual, to “wonder” over to the cosmetics department to see what I could see. I swatched a number of different products and didn’t really find anything that struck my fancy enough to buy it, until… I came across the Revelon Photoready BB Cream. I had run out of the previous BB cream I was using and after testing this one out on the back of my hand, I knew it was the one for me. I picked it up in the color Light/Medium. I was surprised to find that the consistency was quite creamy and thick but, it spread on smoothly and felt very light!

Then, I remembered that I wanted to go check out the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder that I have read so many blog posts about. Also, you guys know that I talk about Tanya Burr and her tutorials   24/7 because I think she is pretty much the next best thing since sliced bread, and so do many of the UK tabloids. She swears by this powder and she has never let me down in one of her product reviews yet so, I thought “what the heck!” and let her influence guide me once again; and, once again, she was right. I bought this pressed powder in (004) ‘Sandstorm’ and adore it. It’s silky, subtle, and remarkably NOT cakey.

This morning, I woke up late (as usual) and had very little time to get ready before I had to take my son to the doctor for his check-up. I grabbed these two products, first applying the BB cream. It instantly perfected my skin and made me seem to “glow”. I looked like I got the best 8 hours of sleep ever! On top, I applied a light layer of the Stay Matte powder & immediately looked like someone airbrushed my skin. It was noticeably soft and flawless looking. I haven’t been as proud of a “no makeup” look in quite a long time!

For a bit of color, I decided to use my old standby L’Oreal True Match Blush in (N5-6) ‘Apricot Kiss’. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel undone or like I needed more than these three products. It was a nice laid back, “I didn’t try too hard, but still look presentable” face to put forward. For added benefit, you could apply your favorite concealer and/or mascara.

This will definitely be my new fresh face, hurried makeup routine and I hope you’ll try it too!

Have a great day! 😉 And don’t forget to like, comment, & follow/subscribe!

My First MAC Cosmetics Purchase

Believe it or not, I wasn’t one of those make-up crazed teens who went to the movies on Friday nights with my friends, looking like a clown. I was the bookworm who spent the weekends on the front porch swing with a blanket, and wasn’t allowed to wear make-up until I was 13– clear mascara and powder. Only recently, within the 2 years or so, have I really gotten into buying products and experimenting with colors.

I buy most of it with “my” money, from photography, so that my husband doesn’t feel like he is feeding an addiction. Which he totally would be if he gave in to my every impulsive lipstick purchase.

Anyway, we were out of town at the beginning of August and I went to MAC with the intention to purchase something for the first time in my life. I was kind of overwhelmed since it was more of a boutique styled store front than a full-fledge store. There were a lot of women shopping and getting makeovers– WAY too many in proportion to the amount of employees on hand. It took me forever to pick out what I wanted even though I watch Tanya Burr’s tutorials all the time on YouTube and knew exactly what I wanted to buy.

So, here is what I ended up with:

(Woodwinked- eye shadow)

(Blush- Frankly Scarlet, above)

I am more than happy with my purchases! MAC truly is the most pigmented makeup I have ever used! The colors and indulgent look really help bring your face to life. So much so, in fact, that the first day I wore the blush (Frankly Scarlet) I kept asking people if it looked okay because I was second guessing my intuition. I’ve never worn a blush remotely as bright as this one!

The woodwinked eye shadow is the perfect neutral shade. It provides a bit of shimmer and mystery but, it’s light enough for a day look. Blends well with almost anything!

Now, you might not be surprised to know that these two very small purchases rang in at a eye popping $40; not my ideal amount to spend. I am a frugal shopper and this was a major splurge for me. However, I wouldn’t go back and do anything differently. Even though, I don’t feel the need to run out and spend $360 on an entire MAC pallet, I do feel like this spur of the moment snag was a great buy. If you aren’t ready to splurge on colors and products you have never used you can Internet search MAC make-up dupes, including the specific color you might want to copy, in order to find a cheaper version.

Just thought I would let you guys know how great you can feel about such a mini haul and give you some ideas for an end of summer look!
